Job Description

The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a Solutions Architect on a full-time, permanent basis at our Perth Airport-based office.
 
The Role
As the Solutions Architect you will be responsible for the design and development of effective, efficient, and scalable solutions to meet the specific needs and objectives of business and technology projects. You will translate business requirements into technical architectures, ensuring that the proposed solutions align with the Arc’s overall goals and strategy. The role is crucial in bridging the gap between business and technology which directly impacts the success and smooth functioning of IT/OT projects.
 
Some of the key duties and responsibilities are: 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and business analysts to gather and understand business objectives and the requirements for applications, systems, infrastructure, and the technical constraints to create a robust solution.
  • Analyse business requirements and architect solutions that address those needs along with the delivery approach, cost estimates, and architecture models across the business, application, data and technology domains.
  • Assist the Architecture Lead to maintain and update the Architecture Repository (Avolution Abacus) to ensure the baseline is current and accurate, and project architectures are developed and incorporated into the baseline in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, platforms, and tools that align with the Architecture Principles and Arc’s Technology Strategy, staying up to date with the latest trends and advancements in technology to make informed decisions.
  • Build prototypes or proof-of-concept implementations to validate the feasibility of the proposed solution and to identify potential issues early on.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, database administrators, business stakeholders and project managers, to ensure a cohesive implementation of the solution.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges related to the solution architecture, security, performance, or scalability and develop options to mitigate these risks effectively.
  • Development of scoping documentation (Technology Project Brief) and the Solution Architecture Document as the two key deliverables of the Technology Project Delivery Framework for the Solutions Architect. 
  • Proficiently stay abreast with industry trends, innovations, and best practices, while adeptly identifying and evaluating systems and software solutions to cater to Arc's requirements and enhance the technology architecture.
  • Analyse the performance of the solution and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance and responsiveness.
    Ensure solutions comply with Arc’s security policies and standards and relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Assist project managers with estimation of project effort, identification of dependencies, and providing technical guidance throughout the project's lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with the Technology Leads to estimate project costs and align the solution with the available budget.
About You

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Relevant formal tertiary qualifications in technology, business or equivalent.
  • Certification and/or experience with Architecture frameworks and notations such as TOGAF and ArchiMate
  • Certifications and/or experience with the Microsoft technology stack and cloud services such as M365, Azure and Power Platform
  • Certification and/or experience with the Cisco technology stack such as routers, switches, routing and switching protocols, MPLS
  • Experience in delivering solutions in the rail industry (or other asset intensive industries) will be beneficial
  • Experience with SCADA, IOT, OT will be beneficial

The Solutions Architect will also have at least 10 years of experience in applying the below skills:

  • Architecture Development: development of various architecture models, diagrams and associated artefacts and deliverables, utilising frameworks and notations such as TOGAF and ArchiMate, across all architecture domains including business, application, data, technology and security.
  • Solution and Implementation Governance: Provision of guidance and risk-based governance to support solution implementation including managing requests for changes and deviations from specifications.
  • Technical Expertise: Domain knowledge and expertise on various technologies including cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, M365, and Power Platform, and on premise platforms, systems and infrastructures.
  • Security and Compliance: Implementation of security policies and standards ensuring that the solution adheres to relevant industry standards and frameworks such as ISO27001 and NIST including regulations to safeguard sensitive data and protect against potential threats.
  • Integration and Interoperability: Ensure that the proposed solution integrates smoothly with existing systems and technologies within the organization, promoting interoperability and data exchange.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong stakeholder engagement and communications skills to establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with various stakeholders, including business executives, project managers, developers, and end-users.
