Job Description

The Opportunity
We are currently looking for an experienced Track Design Engineer to join our dynamic high performing Engineering Team at Arc Infrastructure’s Perth Airport office on a 2 year Fixed Term Contract basis.
 
The Role
The Track Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, review and development of integrated track infrastructure for both internal and external projects. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient and constructible track designs that align with project timelines and budget requirements.
 
The key duties and responsibilities are: 
  • Track Engineering Knowledge: Apply your expertise in Perway/Track Engineering, survey principles, asset management, and constructability aspects to design solutions, particularly for brownfield track projects.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work independently with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Asset Management, Operations, Works Delivery) and external third-party consultants to consolidate design requirements and implement design solutions. Coordinate across departments to ensure the development of complete, constructible track designs.
  • Brownfield Design Solutions: Address constructability, safety, site constraints, and operational/environmental factors in proposed design solutions, especially for brownfield railway systems.
  • Site Inspection & Surveys: Conduct site inspections and surveys to inform track infrastructure design and collaborate with external consultants for engagement, design, and delivery.
  • Peer Reviews & Technical Support: Provide technical support and conduct peer reviews for internal teams, including Engineering, Asset Management, and Works Delivery teams, to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Feasibility Studies & Risk Assessments: Lead technical feasibility studies and participate in risk assessments for track design projects, including derailment investigations and other safety-related evaluations.
  • Client & Regulatory Presentations: Present track design concepts and plans to internal teams, clients, and regulatory authorities for approval.
  • Project Support & Collaboration: Assist the Design Manager and Team Leads in day-to-day track design responsibilities. Collaborate closely with teams to meet project timelines and budget goals.
About You
To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Track Design Expertise: Strong understanding of track design principles, including track geometry, earthworks, and corridor modeling, with a focus on brownfield railway projects.
  • Industry Knowledge: Demonstrable knowledge of Perway/Track Engineering concepts, survey principles, and asset management principles.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work with internal teams, external stakeholders, and third-party consultants to deliver design solutions.
  • Feasibility & Risk Management: Experience in conducting technical feasibility studies, risk assessments, and safety evaluations for track projects.
  • Site Experience: Ability to conduct site inspections and collaborate with external parties for design and delivery.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Experience in presenting designs to clients, internal teams, and regulatory authorities for approval.
  • Project Management: Ability to support project timelines and budgets while delivering high-quality design solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Civil Engineering bachelor’s degree with 6-8 years of experience in Railway Alignment Track Design & Engineering,
  • Good Knowledge RISSB Group Standards, Australian Standards, and applications for the safe and reliable train operations. Knowledge of Arc and/or PTA Standards and Specifications is desirable.
  • Proficient in developing & producing Track Design drawings using Bentley Openrail Designer & MicroStation from concept through to IFC design.
  • Proven experience in the development, design and delivery of Brownfield rail projects including Track renewal, upgrades, Turnouts & Level crossings.
  • Working knowledge of detailed site inspection, Analysis of track & feature survey, detailed topographical survey, Railway construction methodology/principles.
  • Working knowledge of perway engineering and track engineering safety standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate information and Design results
